What is the best time to visit Sikkim?

The best time to visit Sikkim is from March to June for blooming rhododendrons, pleasant weather, and lush landscapes, and from October to mid-December for crystal-clear views of Mount Kangchenjunga and early snowfall in high-altitude North Sikkim.

Are special permits required to visit Sikkim?

Yes. While Indian nationals do not require an Inner Line Permit to enter Gangtok, Protected Area Permits (PAP) and Restricted Area Permits (RAP) are mandatory for visiting protected border zones including Tsomgo Lake, Nathula Pass, Gurudongmar Lake, and Yumthang Valley. Foreign tourists need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Sikkim and can visit select parts in groups with registered tour operators.

How do I reach Sikkim from Siliguri, NJP, or Bagdogra?

You can reach Sikkim by arriving at Bagdogra Airport (IXB) or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) in Siliguri. From there, Himalayan Yatra offers private luxury and standard SUV cab transfers to Gangtok (approx. 120 km, 4.5 to 5 hours drive via NH10).

How many days are ideal for a complete Sikkim trip?

An ideal itinerary is 6 to 8 days: 3 nights in Gangtok (including Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass), 2 nights in North Sikkim (Lachen, Gurudongmar Lake, Lachung, and Yumthang Valley), and 1 to 2 nights in Pelling or Darjeeling.

Can foreign nationals visit North Sikkim and Nathula Pass?

Foreign nationals are strictly prohibited from visiting Nathula Pass and Gurudongmar Lake due to international border regulations. However, foreign nationals can visit Lachung and Yumthang Valley in North Sikkim with a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) when traveling in a minimum group of two accompanied by a registered travel agency like Himalayan Yatra.
