Day 1 to 3: The Ascent to Gangtok and Lake Tsomgo
Our journey began with a scenic drive from Bagdogra airport along the roaring Teesta River. The gradual shift from the plains of Bengal to the misty hills of Gangtok set a beautiful tone for the trip. Our local guide met us with traditional white silk scarves, welcoming us warmly.
The highlight of the initial days was the high-altitude drive to the sacred Tsomgo Lake. Surrounded by rugged terrain and crisp mountain air, the water reflected the bright blue sky beautifully. My children were thrilled to ride the decorated yaks along the lakeside trail.
Day 4 to 7: Exploring Monasteries and Local Culture
Heading further north toward the monasteries, we explored the spiritual side of Sikkim. The peaceful chanting of young monks at Rumtek Monastery offered a calming escape from our busy daily lives. We spent hours studying the complex murals and ancient prayer wheels.
The food was another highlight of our journey. From steaming plates of local momos at small mountainside stalls to traditional thalis at our accommodation, every meal was a delicious introduction to the local culture. We can't thank the Himalayan Yatra crew enough for organizing such a reliable vehicle and an amazing itinerary.
